Weeds proliferate very quickly. All they need is a small crack in asphalt driveways to slip through and develop there, weakening the driveway. It is therefore important to act quickly so that you do not have to redo the entire aisle. Here are some practical tips for cleaning and maintaining garden paths and asphalt driveways.
Asphalt driveways are very resistant and last about ten years. It is also easy to maintain and clean. Its maintenance consists of regularly eliminating weeds and mosses. It is also necessary to sweep the aisle daily to remove dead leaves and other dirt. When the suds are present in small amounts, it is sufficient to scrub the driveway with a stiff brush to remove them. Do not wait to remove the weeds, as they may enlarge the small cracks in the asphalt.
Among the garden paths, asphalt is the one that requires the least maintenance. Moreover, it lasts for many years. Indeed, a simple sweep is enough to remove dust and dead leaves.
However mosses, algae, and lichens can sometimes proliferate quickly, even if they are fairly easy to dislodge.
Using chemicals such as bleach is effective, however it pollutes the soil. Cleaning with hot water, high pressure or also brushing are the most effective mechanical solutions.
There are nonanoic acid products that are environmentally friendly and completely biodegradable.
These products destroy algae, lichens and mosses on hard surfaces exposed to the elements such as an asphalt driveway. Dilute the product, then treat with a sprayer or watering can. Moss or algae will disappear without rubbing.
Scrub the tiles, patio or driveway with a broom dampened with water and a few drops of black soap. Rinse the driveway with plenty of water and dry.
Also, a natural mix could be made with baking soda, vegetable oil, citric acid and water could do the trick.
Mix all the ingredients and spray the aisles with this preparation.
Then just clean the aisles with a water jet and brush vigorously. Brushing is no longer necessary if cleaning is performed with a high pressure jet. It is important to spray the foam suppressor in dry weather.
You should know that products containing iron sulphate should be avoided, as they leave traces of rust on asphalt, stone and gravel. You can of course be helped by tarmac contractors!
How to remove moss from Tarmac Driveways
It is important to act quickly in the event of cracks in the bitumen. This happens when the garden is very sunny. This is because bitumen softens at a certain temperature and then cracks when it cools. The cracks are the source of infiltration, accelerating the deterioration of the driveway. If there are holes or cracks, they should be filled quickly to prevent them from getting bigger.
To do this, specific products that are sold commercially should be used. Just follow the instructions on the package and respect the exposure time. Care must be taken that the surface is perfectly flat to avoid the accumulation of water which is one of the causes of deterioration of the bitumen.
